Germany's Energy Storage Systems Association (BVES) emphasized the need to include electricity-based process heat generation for temperatures above 400 degrees in the funding at the stakeholder consultation on the latest amendment to the Directive for the \u2018Energy and Resource Efficiency in the Economy\u2019 (EEW) funding programme at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK). That will play a central role in the decarbonization of the industry.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

BVES views the EEW Directive as a key funding instrument for the decarbonization of the industry and underscores the importance of this instrument in enabling relevant solutions.<\/p>\n

A key step in decarbonising the industry<\/span><\/h4>\n

The energy transition requires a rapid switch to electricity-based process heat in industry as well as industry as a new user market. If the demand from industry does not materialize, renewable energy projects that are already affected by negative prices on the electricity markets will face serious challenges. The potential for decarbonising industrial processes is enormous, particularly with power-to-heat technologies, which can supply process heat above 400 degrees, as well as mobile heat storage systems. The electricity-based generation of process heat is only possible through thermal storage. Here, the EEW programme can serve as a guideline for industry in the implementation of its decarbonization plans so that the expansion of renewable energies can be sustained in a cost-effective manner.<\/p>\n

When it comes to mobile heat storage systems, it is also important to carry what has already been achieved forward. Now, detailed adjustments are necessary so that the efforts to integrate the technology into the funding program yield results.<\/p>\n

The BVES thanks the BMWK for a productive exchange and the attention to this important topic, and hopes that these crucial adjustments will be made to ensure that the decarbonization of the industry progresses faster.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
